The website creator Wix, with its abundance of options to choose from, is the perfect choice to create an aesthetically pleasing website that still adheres to the design principles we learned throughout the course of the semester.When creating our site we felt that visibility, accessibility and the interface menu were the most important aspects of design that we wanted to focus on and implement into our blog.
When deciding on the home page we knew the concepts of visibility, which states things that are in clear view are more likely to be used than things that are not and accessibility, which states That things should be usable by as many people as possible without modifications (Lidwell et al, 2015), were very important. This is why all of our products are visible and can be accessed right from the homepage. Each product on the homepage has a picture associated with it as well as a snippet of our evaluation, and when you click on the more icon it takes you to the full article and more pictures of the chosen product. We felt it was necessary to have pictures showcased on the homepage, because people might not know what these products are that we are evaluating.
After making our products visible and accessible from the home page, we then decided on implementing the interface menu. An interface menu, which is an organized way of showing different options that users have ( Preece et al, 2015), can make or break website like this. We knew we wanted to follow the concept of KISS, which states having a simpler design is better and more reliable (Lidwell et al, 2015). Our interface menu only consists of a home, web pages/software, gadgets and gizmos, about and references icons. Clicking on each icon will then take you to the subsequent web page. For example clicking on the gadgets and gizmos icon will take you to all of the gadget and gizmos we have evaluated and same goes for the web pages and software icon.
After creating the interface menu, we then focused on making sure all of our evaluation entries were aesthetically consistent. In the beginning of each evaluation there are three pictures that showcase the products, and us interacting with them. All the articles are in middle alignment with size fifteen Times New Roman font.
After implementing the concepts of visibility, accessibility and an interface menu into the design of our website, we feel we have created a fully functioning blog that follows good concept of design.
